"An audit is a regular examination and checking of accounts of financial
records."
Engaged in for a variety of reasons, the audit is performed by an outside
accounting firm which can be both friendly and objective about the job it
performs. It is the duty of the C.P.A. firm to form an opinion as to
whether the financial statements represent fairly and accurately the financial
position of the company and its operations.
An Audit may be requested,

other concerned parties, that the financial statements of the company are
correct and fairly represent changes in condition and financial position of
the company.

By a lending institution which is considering financial backing or lending
to the company.

By the Securities Exchange Commission as a condition of approval for a
stock or bond issue.
